The school holidays are just around the corner and we are here to save you the trouble of having to find things to do! Below are some of the awesome activities you can get your kids involved in during these school holidays which will not only be immensely fun for them it’ll also give you the chance to catch some kid-free hours as well!

Indoor Activities

As it’s the July holidays, the weather might not be too ideal for being outside for too long but don’t worry, there are plenty of indoor activities as well!

Shopping centres like Westfield Innaloo, Karrinyup or Galleria all run numerous school holiday activities which can range from jungle gyms, theatre performances, art classes or even silent discos (like this one on the 22nd of June at Galleria)!

Shopping centres usually also accommodate for a range of ages, for example Armadale Central Shopping Centre is running a henna workshop on the 3rd of July for teens and young adults. Keep an eye out on your local shopping centre and get your kids involved in the free activities. It’ll give you some time to shop in peace!

Local libraries are also a great place to look for entertainment, especially during the school holidays. Spearwood Public Library for instance is running a sand art class on the 4th of July, which is recommended for ages 6+. The local Kelmscott Library is running a Lego creations session on the 3rd of July, which will be filled with games and challenges for kids.

Ikea and Bunnings Warehouse are also great places to look when it comes to the school holidays. Ikea runs numerous kid scavenger hunts, art and hobby classes, face painting and food events, all designed to give you a little free time. Bunnings runs kids workshops, face painting, DIY sessions and colouring competitions every weekend, so enquire at your local shop and find out how you can get your child involved as well!

Although most museums and exhibitions cost money, the WA Shipwrecks Museum in Fremantle doesn’t! Open from 9.30am -5pm daily, admission is free though they do encourage donations. So bring your kids for an awesome day of history and shipwrecks.

On a different day you can also take the kids to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Education and Heritage Centre, which is located in the original Perth Central Fire Station. The centre offers a fun and interactive experience for school children and is full of holiday activities all of which are available free of charge. It’s open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 3:00pm.

Outdoor Activities

Being outside is one of the best things you can do during the holidays even if it is winter. It allows your kids to get their energy flowing outside of the house whilst you enjoy a cup of coffee or two nearby. But going to the local playground is probably not that exciting for you or your kids anymore.

Why not instead on one of the warmer days, head to the Volcano playground located at Faulkner Park, close to the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre or to the Ellenbrook Water Park, to give your kids a new place to enjoy the day. You can also head to Kings Park and enjoy the numerous playgrounds there and the Synergy Parkland with a 75-m long elevated walkway, island fort and an interactive misting water forest, around all of which you can find a great place for a picnic.

So keep your eye out on your local shops and libraries, as more activities will be popping up the closer the holidays come! The above activities will give you some precious time to enjoy the quietness whilst your kids are busy with the awesome entertainment!
